About Prunedale
Prunedale is a census-designated community in north Monterey County. The name comes from the failed attempt to grow plums. The rural community is primarily small farms and ranches, greenhouses and agricultural operations.
Shopping centers provide groceries, restaurants, livestock supply and western wear, gas stations, along with other services and a Starbucks. San Miguel Canyon Road is a primary connection from Highway 101 to Highway 1.
The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve borders Elkhorn Road. Moss Landing, the Moss Landing State Wildlife Area, and beaches are a short drive from Prunedale.
Residents enjoy a quiet lifestyle with easy access to shopping, dining and activities in Salinas, Santa Cruz, Watsonville, the Monterey Peninsula and a less than a two-hour drive to San Francisco. Nearest airports are the Monterey Regional Airport, San Jose International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport.
